In line with General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statement that "engineers are a crucial component of the country's strategic talent force," the award ceremony for the Sixth Outstanding Engineer Awards was grandly held in Beijing on September 24. The China Composites Industry Association was invited to attend and joined various sectors in witnessing this glorious moment in the scientific and technological community.
At this award ceremony, Researcher Lü Chunxiang from the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was honored with the "Outstanding Engineer Award" for his remarkable achievements in the field of composite materials. Lü Chunxiang's team has long focused on cutting-edge technologies of carbon fiber and its composite materials, achieving a series of breakthroughs in preparation, performance optimization, and application development. Their achievements have been widely applied in national key areas such as aerospace and high-end equipment manufacturing, making significant contributions to the self-sufficiency and control of China's composite material technology. This honor not only recognizes his decades of dedicated efforts but also highlights the high level of scientific and technological innovation capabilities in the entire composite material industry.
Currently, scientific and technological innovation has become the primary driving force for development. As a core area in the field of new materials, composite materials are embracing unprecedented strategic opportunities. The country's "15th Five-Year Plan" has listed it as a key area of strategic emerging industries, aiming to break through key material technology bottlenecks and support the development of high-tech industries such as aerospace and new energy. The "Catalog of Key New Materials for First-Batch Application Demonstrations (2024 Edition)" has included 299 new materials as research and development priorities, providing strong policy support for the industrialization of composite materials.
Under the guidance of national strategies, the industry is accelerating its transformation towards high-end, green, and intelligent development. From the lightweighting of new energy vehicles to the large-scale development of wind turbine blades, and then to the substitution of structural materials in aerospace, composite materials are unleashing enormous potential and becoming a key force in driving the upgrading of the manufacturing industry.
The "Outstanding Engineer Awards" are selected every two years, with only about 70 individuals selected nationwide, covering all engineering fields. Those selected from the composite material field are extremely rare and truly remarkable. Lü Chunxiang's award is a microcosm of talent development in the industry and a high recognition of the innovation capabilities and talent梯队 (Note: "talent梯队" is translated as "talent梯队" here, but a more natural English term might be "talent pipeline" or "talent梯队 structure"; for simplicity, it's kept as is but could be refined based on context) construction across the entire industry.
The China Composites Industry Association has always taken "serving the industry and promoting innovation" as its mission, actively building a platform for industry-university-research-application collaboration.
